In the Laguna de Sotillo, 1600 metres above sea level, you can witness one of nature's most amazing natural displays in the Lago de Sanabria Natural Park. With the spring thaw and during the autumn rains, "horse tails" form, and burst from river Truchas in a quiet corner of the forest. Almost in secret, the outflow of the Laguna de Sotillo and the Cabriteño stream rush together, forming a dramatic horse tail effect.
The walk to the falls starts in the lower part of the town of Sotillo. We cross the river Truchas by means of a wooden bridge and begin the well-signposted, slow climb through the forest. Most of the climb is gentle, although there are some short steeper gradients, and it allows us to lose ourselves in the intensity of the forest with its dense holly, oak, chestnut and hazelnut. Although not easy, the walk also provides an opportunity to observe some of the many animal species that frequent the Park.
