Pubol Castle is the emblem of one of the most famous love stories of art history of all times: the one starring Salvador Dali and Gala. The great Catalan artist rescued the castle from a state of ruin in the Sixties and took his love to receive his gift blindfolded. She accepted the present on condition that the artist could only visit the castle by invitation. And so it was until the death of Gala, in 1982.

Dating from around the eleventh century, and located in a beautiful landscape of the province of Girona, this is a beautiful castle palace that belonged to the barons of Pubol for several generations. After the death of Gala, Salvador Dali lived here for two years until a fire, from which the artist never recovered, forced him to move to Figueres. Open to the public today as the Gala Dali House and Castle Museum, a visit involves the progressive discovery of the whole fascinating world that enveloped the couple. From insect-legged elephants in the garden to busts of Wagner at the pool to the party dresses kept in the attic, some of them designed by Dali himself. Meanwhile,a constant invitation to delirium is to be found in the piano room, the shield room, the blue and red rooms, kitchen, bathroom and the dining room-study which opens onto the terraced fields of Baix Emporda. And in the garage, the couple's legendary blue Cadillac.
