In the north, the Algaiarens beach is unmissable. Away from the tourist bustle, swept by the wind from the mountains, it is one of the most idyllic and picturesque spots on the Island where the pines reach down to the fine golden sands. Just spend some time contemplating the rocks that separate the double fan of gold, or stroll along the rosy dunes. Across the hill you reach the beach of La Vall, set at the mouth of a ravine.
Nearby, the stretch of coast around the Cap de Cavalleria, the northernmost area with cliffs of up to 80 metres, brings together all the beauty of this side of the Island. A path leads to the viewpoint that offers the perfect scene of the Cavalleria beach in its entirety. It is wide, shell-shaped with dunes and sparse vegetation. It slopes gently and has the added value of rich clay, which is popular among swimmers for mud baths. A little way off, Ferragut, and farther still, Cala Mica are essential stops on coast of small cliffs that follows the Cami de Cavals, the old road that circles the entire island.
Also in the north, but close to Mahon, in the east, another fascinating place is the Cap de Favaritx, a promontory that reaches into the sea. topped by a lighthouse that stands proud against the Tramontana winds. As we'd expect, there is yet another cove alongside the cape. The reeds and rushes of the Cala Presili are the start of the Albufera des Grau Natural Park. Opposite the cove lies a small island that can be visited by boat, the Illa d’en Colom.
The Island of Menorca offers still more wonderful places to visit: Cala Morell, Cala Pilar, Pregonda, Excorxada… all beautiful, paradisaical spots; great natural treasures of the Island that are cherished and protected for the future.
