Organising your trip

Best time to visit

  • Year round, except winter: the summers are mild and the winters are cold with frequent frosts.

Tips

  • There are two nature centres: one in Dilar, Granada (Tel.: 958 34 04 72) and the other in Abrucena, Almeria (Tel.: 950 52 10 69). There are also two information points: Pampaneira, Granada (Tel.: 958 76 31 27) and Puerto de La Ragua, in Bayarcal, Almeria (Tel.: 950 52 40 20)
  • In spring and summer electric storms are frequent in the mountains. During storms, you should avoid peaks and projecting areas which are exposed to the lightning, as well as rivers and streams.
  • Plan your trips in advance and take the necessary equipment for each route.
  • The Park terrain is rugged; use extreme caution when crossing icy and snowy areas.
  • Check weather forecasts before you set out. Be prepared for sudden changes in weather in the mountains.
  • Start out early. Make the most of the early morning and return early.
  • Hire a guide if you are inexperienced and intend to climb or follow the mountain trails.
