What to see

El Dornajo Visitor Centre
Located half way along the road which leads to the Pradollano ski station, the Visitor Centre is a good starting point for understanding the ecological values of the park. It houses the Museo de la Montaña - the Mountain Museum. There is a shop and specialist bookshop.

Veleta peak
The unusual shape of this 3,398 metre peak has made it an emblem of the Sierra Nevada. In winter it is covered by huge sheets of ice and snow, but in summer it is well worth the climb to see the spectacular views from the top. On a clear day you can see the Mediterranean and the Rif mountains in North Africa.

Mulhacen
At 3,482 metres, Mulhacen is the highest peak on the Iberian peninsula. The summit can be reached when not frozen by means of a beautiful path which leaves from the foot of the Veleta peak.

Pradollano ski station
This great winter city - one of the most modern and active in Europe - spreads in the shadow of the Veleta peak. There are more than 60 kilometres of slopes offering facilities from skiing to snowboarding. There are slopes for all skill levels, lifts and ski schools and a vast infrastructure of accommodation.

Pradollano-Capileira road
In the summer months, when the snow and ice have disappeared, this road is uncovered. It leads to the summit of Veleta and descends between glacial cirques and lakes. At this time of year it is possible to see the herds of Spanish goats that live on the high mountain slopes.

Las Alpujarras
This, the most fascinating and beautiful regions of the province of Granada, stretches from the town of Orgiva to the valley of Andarax in Almeria. nestling among deep ravines and valleys, the southern slopes of the Sierra Nevada offers a string of small white villages which preserve the architectural heritage of Arab ancestors. Among them are Trevelez - the highest village in Spain - Mecina Bombaron, Berchules and Valor.
