El Acebuche Visitor Centre
Three kilometres from Matalascañas, this is the main Doñana reception centre and offers the visitor information about the characteristics, history and resources of the park.
Matalascañas Beach
This 28 kilometre stretch of fine white sand with its spectacular shifting dunes, almost ten metres in height, is one of the greatest attractions of the Huelva coastline. Reached from Almonte, the beach is partly urbanised, with good facilities, but the further one travels the more deserted and desertified it becomes. Matalascañas offers a walk to the mouth of the Guadalquivir river, a kilometre and a half dune walk, and the possibility of visiting the dry dock with its fishermen's shacks and various marine specialities.
La Rocina Visitor Centre
Located alongside the La Rocina creek, and near to the village of El Rocio, this visitor centre houses an exhibition about the El Rocio pilgrimage and fiesta in a typical marshland hut.
El Acebron Visitor Centre
Situated in a neo-baroque mansion, this centre houses the exhibition El hombre y la marisma - "Man and Marsh".
Jose Antonio Valverde Visitor Centre
Right in the middle of the marshlands, this centre is located in a traditional marshland hut. It overlooks a marsh pool which is home to a variety of water fauna. The centre offers an exhibition about the Doñana park, various observation points for viewing the marsh, and a foot path which gives access to an outside observatory.
Fabrica de Hielo Visitor Centre
Situated in the Cadiz province, this centre derives its name from the old factory in which it is housed in the seaside district of Bajo de Guia of Sanlucar de Barrameda at the mouth of the Guadalquivir river. Inside it offers a display on the history and traditions of the lower Guadalquivir area.
Dune Park
A coastal spot of great ecological interest on the road between Matalascañas and Mazagon, the park is characterised by the preservation of fixed or fossil dunes which form a ten metre cliff above the beach. Several trails cross this area of golden sand through a reconstructed town of typical huts and a dense forest of pines, junipers, gorse and scrub overlooking the Atlantic. The most emblematic building in the park is the Marine World Museum, which draws attention to the importance of water in this land washed by the Atlantic Ocean. (www.parquedunar.com. El Rocio
A village in the heart of Doñana which grew up in the shelter of a white-walled shrine where the Virgin of el Rocio is venerated. In late May or early June the place becomes a centre of pilgrimage, in one of the most popular and fervent of Andalusian folk traditions. One of the most charming spots is the Acebuchal square, behind the sanctuary by the side of the Rocina stream.
