The common coot, the duck, the mallard and the heron nest among the tangle of weeds, sedge and reeds. The marsh harrier flies overhead while frogs and water snakes are found in the pools . Here, too are the last of the otters who feed on fish such as carp and orfe. Anatidae are the queens of the area. They overwinter here and as many as 10,000 may come together at one time, including species such as the red-crested pochard, purple heron, night heron and mallard.
