What to see

Eastern sector

Estany Gran

The melt-water torrents from the surrounding peaks form great waterfalls which flow towards the Ratera valley where the Estany Gran lake is to be found. It is accessible on foot from Sant Maurici, a walk which takes just over an hour and a half. The Saboredo peak (2,814 m.) overlooks the lake.

Estany de Sant Maurici

The clear water of the huge Sant Maurici lake reflects the sharp white crests of the sierra dels Encantats. Pines and firs cover the slopes and offer a green counterpoint. Sant Maurici offers both a mountain refuge and an information point and is the starting out point for various trails through the park.

Western sector

L´Estany Llong

This crescent-shaped lake is to be found in the northwest quadrant of the park. It is surrounded by alpine meadows where cows graze in the summer months. With backdrop of the Portarró d´Espot, the green slopes to the left counterbalance the baldness of those to the right.

El Planell d´Aigües Tortes

Formerly a lake stood on this site, but over time it was filled in by the sediment of glacier moraines. Here the Sant Nicolau river splits into several branches and its sparkling waters tumble between stones to give life to meadows and pastures. The Cremada rock offers a fine viewpoint of the plain.

Boi information centre

Provides a complete library and documentation service, including lending, photocopying and news services, which enables a thorough understanding of the park. A range of regular activities are also offered.
