In the southeast of the Iberian peninsula, bathed by the Mediterranean Sea, the wide, bright coast of the province of Almeria displays a landscape of contrasts. There are both busy tourist resorts and natural areas where mankind has barely left its mark. The Cabo de Gata-Nijar Natural Park, with its fascinating volcanic landscape dotted with medium-height hills ranges, is one of the essential spots to visit. But the Almeria coast is also home to some of the most fascinating beaches and coves of Andalusia, such as los Muertos, Monsul and los Genoveses.
The capital city, Almeria itself, is located in a wide bay, open to the sea. Dotted along the coastline the visitor will find pleasant towns with their typical white architecture such as Mojacar, traditional craft centres such as Nijar, small fishing villages, lighthouses and natural paradises for lovers of the underwater world.
