By plane
The airport of Santiago de Compostela (tel. +34 981 54 75 00. www.aena.es) is in Lavacolla, ten kilometres from the city. There are direct flights to major Spanish cities and some international destinations (Dublin, Frankfurt, Liverpool, London, Paris and Rome). Access to the airport is via the N-634, which connects Santiago de Compostela with the N-547 to Lugo. There is a bus linking the airport to Santiago and La Coruña (www.empresafreire.com).
By road
The AP-9 main Atlantic motorway connects Santiago de Compostela to La Coruña, Ferrol, Pontevedra, Vigo, Tui and the Portuguese border. The A-6 Northwest route connects Galicia with the rest of Spain by way of the province of Lugo. The A-52 Rias Baixas route connects Galicia with the rest of Spain by way of the province of Ourense. The AP-53 motorway links Santiago with Lalin, where it connects with the N-525 to Ourense and Madrid. The N-634 route along the Cantabria coast connects Galicia with France. The bus station (San Caetano, s/n.; tel +34 981 54 24 16; www.tussa.org) serves international destinations in Portugal, Germany, Belgium, France, Holland and Romania, and major national destinations including cities in the Autonomous Communities of Cantabria, Madrid, Castille and Leon and Andalusia.
By train
The train station in Santiago de Compostela (Horreo, s/n.; tel +34 902 24 02 02; www.renfe.es) is served by long-distance and regional trains as well as the luxury Transcantabrian Railway. There are three direct trains a day to Madrid (talgo and express services) and one to Bilbao and Hendaya. Journeys to Barcelona, Portugal and Paris all require a single change of trains, as do almost all major domestic destinations. Regional trains leave hourly to the main Galician destinations - La Coruña, Vilagarcia de Arousa, Pontevedra and Vigo - with links to Portugal. There are also frequent direct services to the city of Ourense. The Transcantabrian (www.transcantabrico.com), a luxury scenic train service in north and northwest Spain, connects 'Green Spain', from San Sebastian in the Basque country to Santiago de Compostela.
