National Archaeological Museum

Egyptian mummies and the sarcophagus of the priest Amenemhat; a fine collection of Greek amphorae; the Roman statues of Tiberius and Livia; the Iberian "damas" - female sculptures from Elche, Ibiza and Baza; the Celtic boars of Vetonia: the Visigoth Toledan treasure of Guarrazar; the crosier of Pope Luna; the arch of the Moorish castle, the Aljaferia of Saragossa. These are just some of many valuable archaeological treasures of this museum, heir to the one opened by King Amadeus of Savoy in the former Casino de la Reina. Since 1892 the collection has been located at its current site, the neo-classical Palace of Museums and Libraries.
