Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando

Valuable works by Goya, Velazquez, Zurbaran, Murillo, El Greco, Rubens, Rodin and Picasso, some of them with particular links to the museum, are included in the collection here at the Royal Academy of Fine Art. The display includes a wonderful series of drawings and some very original pieces, such as the famous self-portrait of Goya in a hat decorated with candles, and only Arcimboldo remaining in Spain. Of particular note, too, is the collection of more than 8000 plates and engravings - 237 of which are by Goya - which belong to the National Engravings collection. On the same pavement, just a little farther along the calle de Alcala, stands the seventeenth century Church of the Calatravas.
