Located on the site of the former Villahermosa Palace, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum displays the splendid collection of paintings from the Thyssen family, ranging from the thirteenth century to the twentieth century. It complements the collections of the Prado and the Reina Sofia, and together, these museums form the "Golden Mile" of the art world. Alongside frequent temporary exhibitions, among the highlights of the permanent collection are early primitive Italian and Dutch works, German Renaissance art, and Dutch painting of the seventeenth century. The Impressionists, the Expressionists and the avante-garde movements of twentieth century Europe are particularly well represented.
