The Madrid metro underground train service (www.metromadrid.es) has twelve conventional lines and three light rail links; it extends to the airport and to other locations in the community and offers the most convenient and economical way to move around the capital. The network of EMT urban buses (www.emtmadrid.es) extends throughout the city. Unlike the underground, bus journey times may be affected by traffic. Most bus lines run between 6.00am and 11.30pm, although there are also night buses (known as "owls"). The metrobus ticket, priced 7.40€, covers ten trips either by metro or by bus, and tourist transport passes (www.neoturismo.com) are available for up to seven days travel with prices depending on various options. The 15,000 taxis that operate in Madrid are easily identifiable: they are white vehicles with a red diagonal stripe across the front doors; the green roof light indicates that the vehicle is free. Although there are taxi ranks located throughout the city (indicated by a blue sign with a large white T), taxis can be hailed and flagged down in the street. Taxi services are also available by phone (local council taxis: +34 915 88 96 31/32; Union of Radio Taxis: +34 914 47 51 80/32 32, Independent Radio Taxis: +34 914 05 12 13/55 00; Radio-Telephone Taxi / Euro Taxi: +34 915 47 82 00/85 00/86 00; Teletaxi: +34 913 71 21 31 / 37 11 630 907 990). There is a cable car (tel. +34 915 41 11 18, www.teleferico.com) which links the Rosales gardens with the Casa de Campo; the 2.5 kilometre route offers a magnificent view over the city. Renfe Cercanias (local railway service) (tel. +34 902 24 02 02, www.renfe.es/cercanias) connects the capital to the main locations of the Community of Madrid. When travelling to the city by car, it's important to remember that street parking is limited and covered by different schedules and tariffs, details of which are given on the parking meters throughout the city: the blue lines indicate parking zones for visitors and allow a stay of up to two hours; the green lines, are preferential areas for vehicles with resident's permit and stay is limited to one hour; a white letter P on a blue background indicates the various public or private car parks which charge hourly rates for parking.
