The Archaeological Museum is located in the Renaissance pavilion that was built for the World Exhibition held in Seville in 1929. It is one of the foremost Archaeology museums in Spain, possessing a particularly important collection of Roman pieces from the Roman city of Italica. From this period it is worth noting the sculptures of the emperors Trajan and Hadrian. There are also objects from prehistoric sites in the province, including the treasure of Carambolo from the times of the ancient city of Tartessus. Other important pieces include the Phoenician treasure of Evora, a third century mosaic of Bacchus, the inscription from the Islamic Mosque of San Juan de la Palma and a fifteenth century Mudejar baptismal font.
